In the previous sharingDry goods! Fun with 13 Tableau charts for easy data analysisIn the ", we have already learned the sixth common chart - Gantt chart.

But if you want the chartIt can reflect the amount of data, and can intuitively reflect the increase and decrease of data.

Then, you need to make the arrangement of the data points in the chart look like waterfalls through clever settings.

This kind of Gantt chart, which is arranged like a waterfall, is called the “waterfall map”. usually,Waterfall charts are often used in cases where metadata is categorized to reflect differences between parts.

So how do you make such a waterfall map?

In this issue of "Give a Chestnut", the Tableau technique that Ada wants to share with everyone is: How to make a Gantt chart into a waterfall chart.

Specific steps are as follows:

Step 1:making a Gantt chart

Import the sample-supermarket data, drag and drop the "sub-category" and "profit" fields to the column function area and the row function area respectively, and add a quick table calculation "summary" for "profit", the calculation basis is "sub-category", generate Column chart.

Select the graph as a Gantt bar chart in the Marks card.

Step 2: the production of basic waterfall map

Create the calculated field "-profit", drag and drop it onto the "size" of the "tag" card. The size of the value is displayed as the height of the column. The positive and negative values of the value show different directions, that is, based on the position of the Gantt chart. If "-profit" is positive, direction is upward; "-profit" is negative and direction is downward.

Sort the subcategories and sort them in descending order of the value of the Profit field.

In the menu bar, choose Analysis -> Total -> Show Line Total. At this point, the sum of the profits of each subcategory is generated.

Step 3:add color

Drag and drop the field "Profit" onto the "Color" of the "Tag" card and "Edit Color" in the pop-up color legend. In the color edit box, select “Color Gradient” as the second order, click “Advanced”, and “Center” selects 0.

In this way, we have created a "waterfall map".
