For example, the latest date of the current data source is August, the worksheet opens the filter default option is August; when the data source is updated to September, the filter will automatically become September.

Today, we share a way to implement the latest date values in Tableau.

The Tableau trick we want to share with you this issue is: Screening to the latest date value.

In order to facilitate learning, chestnuts use the following test data, so that everyone can quickly master the method.

Specific steps are as follows:

01, open Tableau Desktop, connect the data source. New worksheets, drag and drop the dimension "order date" to the filter, click the "Order Date" on the filter, select "Edit Filter". In the pop-up dialog box, select Discrete Date "Year / Month / Day", click Next.

Select from the list to check "August 1, 2019". After checking the bottom "Open Workbook to the latest date value", click OK.

Create a dashboard and drag and drop the worksheet created to the dashboard. It can be seen that the dates of the dashboard right corner filter are the latest date in the data source August 1, 2019.

02. To verify that the preset is successful, we add a new date in the data source September 1, 2019.

Close and reopen the workbook, or refresh the data source directly on the worksheet.

Switch to the dashboard view, you can see the default date of the upper right corner filter into September 1, 2019. This shows that the preset is successful!

TIPS: Tableau Desktop When you connect to the data source in real time, you can update to the latest date each time you open the report filter. However, if you use a data extraction, you need to manually refresh the data source, or publish the view to Tableau Server, and set the extraction plan, you can implement each open report, the filter is updated to the latest date.
